Curriculum at Newlands

Newlands is an English National Curriculum School; Our curriculum adheres closely to the framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) in the Primary and Secondary school.

We follow the key outcomes and objectives required, particularly in the core subjects of Mathematics, Literacy, and Science.  The curriculum also includes the Arabic Language for Native and non-native speakers, Islamic Studies for Muslim students, Moral Education and Social Studies- UAE, French as a Foreign Language, PE, Music, Art, STEAM, and English as an Additional language.

The primary school is broken into two key stages: Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6). Our creative, child-led curriculum is designed around overarching concepts, which provide students with real-life context that integrates and connects all curriculum areas. As a school, we ensure that we offer a consistent and seamless progression as the children transition across the different phases throughout primary school.

Students in Key Stage 3 follow the National Curriculum for England and have a broad and balanced variety of subjects to further study. Our well-resourced facilities enable students to engage in and fully access the curriculum of each subject, including science labs, a swimming pool and art and music rooms.
Students in Key Stage 4 begin their IGCSE subjects and are fully supported by our experienced subject specialists, to enable each student to achieve their academic potential. Courses are studied throughout Year 10 and Year 11 and end with an external UK-certified board exam from Pearson Edexcel.

As a fully inclusive school, we believe in success for all, not just academically but in many other areas of student development.  Our curriculum offering is enriched with a wide range of cross-curricular provisions, which include a variety of opportunities in sports, and the performing arts.  Over 70plus activities are offered by the school staff free of charge whilst others are outsourced and have an additional fee attached.

Our robust standards in teaching and learning, are evidence of the commitment of all our dedicated staff to achieving the best standards across all areas of school life. Our lessons are delivered in a way that is meaningful, relevant, challenging, and progressive for all of our students.  Newlands students are encouraged to be excited, to be curious, to be challenged, and challenge themselves, and to have a voice in shaping their learning journey.
